New York, June 13, 2017 – New York Dutch Lions FC is pleased to announce the last two former Dutch National Team players that will play this Friday for the New York Dutch Lions FC All Star Team vs New York Cosmos B at MCU Park. Jeffrey Talan and Martijn Meerdink will also be travelling with the team tomorrow from Amsterdam to New York. Talan played 255 professional games for Heerenveen (167 games, 41 goals) and ADO den Haag (89 games, 15 goals) and played 8 games for the Dutch National Team between 1998 and 2000. Meerdink is a former player of De Graafschap (97 games, 22 goals), FC Groningen (44 games, 2 goals) and AZ Alkmaar (94 games, 18 goals). He earned his one cap in a game vs Ecuador in 2006.
The team has 11 former Dutch National Team players and are joined by former professional players Marcel Meeuwis (301 professional games for VVV, Roda JC, Feyenoord, Melbourne and Borussia Monchengladbach as well as 3 games for the Dutch National U23 team), Rene van Dieren (282 professional games for Feyenoord, Excelsior, Sparta and Fortuna Sittard), Thomas Verhaar (former Houston Dutch Lions FC and currently playing for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Premier League) and Erik Tammer (322 professional games for Ajax Amsterdam, Heerenveen, Cambuur, Go Ahead Eagles and ADO den Haag).
