New York Dutch Lions FC organizes an annual game in June between a team of former Dutch National Team players and New York Cosmos as well as a game vs a local team consisting of Dutch soccer players that work in New York for large (Dutch) corporations.
In 2017 the team was coached by former New York Cosmos, Ajax and Feyenoord player and World Cup finalist Wim Rijsbergen, who was part of the legendary Dutch National Team in the seventies with Johan Cruijff, recognized for inventing the "Total Football" philosophy. Wim Rijsbergen was assisted by John de Wolf, former Feyenoord captain and winner of the UEFA CUP. Kids in the New York area have the unique chance to train with these "heroes" during one of the clinics before the game(s). But the games also bring long time fans from the area to meet the players they always watched and admired.
The 2017 game vs New York Cosmos B was played at MCU Park and is scheduled to take place again in June 2018. The second game in 2017 was played at Pier 41 and is also scheduled to take place again in 2018. The exact dates for the games will be announced in the beginning of 2018.
