Edson Braafheid started his career with Eredivisie side FC Utrecht in 2003. He played 82 games in four years before moving toFC Twentein 2007, where he played 76 games. He was then signed by German powerhouse Bayern Munich in 2009. In the second half of the season Braafheid went on loan with Scottish Premier League club Celtic. After Munich he played three years (31 games) for fellow Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, who loaned him to FC Twente for one year. After Hoffenheim he played two years for Lazio Roma (Italy). Braafheid won the European Championship in 2006 with the Dutch National U21 team and played 10 games for Dutch National Team, including an appearance in the 2010 World Cup final vs Spain.
