Gerald Vanenbrug started his career with Ajax where he played 173 games in 6 years scoring 64 goals as a right winger. In his time with Ajax he played with Johan Cruijff (who later became his coach), Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard and Ronald Koeman. He transferred to rival PSV Eindhoven in 1986 where he played 199 games scoring 48 goals. In 1993 he signed for Japanese club Jubilo Iwata, where he stayed for three years playing 64 games. After playing one year for AS Cannes (France) he played two more years for 1860 Munich, where he played 42 games and scored 2 goals. Vanenburg played 42 games fort he Dutch National Team, with whom he won the European Championship in 1988. He also won the Champions League with PSV Eindhoven in 1988 and won the Dutch National Championship eight times. After his playing career he was also Head Coach for 1860 Munich in the Bundesliga and Helmond Sport and FC Eindhoven in the Dutch Jupiler League (2nd level).
